Cinema and the Poetics of Bodies

Argentine filmmaker, screenwriter and producer Albertina Carri presents some of her current reflections on the poetics of bodies in cinema, at a time when our bodies represent vital potentialities. From the understanding cinema as something organic, the director of the award-winning films Las Hijas del Fuego, Los Rubios, La Rabia, among others, makes reference to concepts from philosophy, psychoanalysis and image analysis to investigate some questions that philosophy has been asking since pre-Socratic times, and psychology since its start. What is a body? What can a body do? The answers are varied, according to the epistemological system used to formulate the answer. Albertina proposes an approach to Spinoza’s, which she will use to think about the possibilities of the body and cinema as the becoming of the sacred from our purely profane nature.
