We are pleased to celebrate BrLab’s 15th anniversary, as it has established itself as a strategic hub for networking, training, and the development of professionals and projects in Ibero-American cinema.

Held in São Paulo, Brasília, and Recife during the months of April and May, BrLab presents a comprehensive program, which includes four workshops for projects from different countries selected through open calls, and various free activities open to the public, such as a masterclass, meetings, and lectures on screenwriting, distribution, and sustainability, as well as the BrLab Film Festival, which features a lineup of films including some iconic titles that have been part of the event. The BrLab Film Festival will be screened at various cinemas in the cities of São Paulo, Brasília, and Recife.

Curated by Ariene Ferreira, the Petrobras Think Tank is a new meeting space within the BrLab program, the result of a new partnership between Petrobras—the master sponsor of this edition—and BrLab, organized in collaboration with Cinema Verde, taking place in São Paulo and Brasília. Industry experts and professionals will gather to discuss and formulate guidelines that encourage more responsible practices and production models aligned with environmental preservation, and will share part of the discussions in open forums aimed at the audiovisual sector.

As in previous years, São Paulo is hosting BrPlot’s free lecture series – Screenwriters’ Meeting, which this year is curated by screenwriter Maíra Oliveira and proposes reflections on Silences and Silencing, discussing how contemporary Brazilian audiovisual media has shifted structural conflicts (dictatorship, state violence, and social inequalities) into the intimate sphere, especially the family space, and contributes to the construction of Brazilian cultural memory. Rounding out the lecture lineup are two panels from Reach – Audience Issues, a program section dedicated to discussing ideas and presenting panels on distribution. In this edition, case studies will be presented on the distribution of the films The Secret Agent, by Kleber Mendonça Filho, and The Day I Met You, by André Novais Oliveira.

The program is completely free, and recordings of the roundtables with Brazilian sign language interpretation are available online to everyone via the BrLab YouTube channel.

Welcome to the 15th BrLab!
