In addition to project development workshops and professional training, BrLab promotes various activities open to the public – such as meetings, talks and debates – which are held in person and also made available online to stimulate the democratization and accessibility of the event.

The panel aims to investigate a frequently asked – and sometimes uncomfortable – question in the Brazilian audiovisual market: “Are there a lack of screenwriters in Brazil?” With the growth of audiovisual production for cinema and television in the country, The screenwriter is often detected as the figure responsible for unsuccessful audiovisual works. Carol Rodrigues graduated in Social Sciences and Cinema. After she took a film specialization course at the New York Film Academy. In 2015, she directed the short film “The Doll and the Silence” and in 2019, two more shorts “Their Happiness” and “Mother Doesn’t Cry”. The films have participated in several national and international festivals, winning the Best Short Award elected by the public of FESTin in Lisbon, the Best Short Awards elected by the Jury and the Audience of the Entertodos. As a screenwriter she participated in the team of the “School of Genius” series by Gloob, and in the third season of 3% by Netflix. Now she is actively dedicated to the project “Made to be maids”, her first fiction feature film. The film is in the final stretch of development to begin production in partnership with Canal Brasil and Vitrine Filmes.

Teodoro Poppovic is a screenwriter and director. He graduated in film and began his career at MTV Brazil. He was one of the writers responsible for the network’s comedy programs, such as Comédia and 15 Minutos, winners of the APCA award. With Cao Hamburger, he made the program No Estranho Planeta dos Seres Audiovisuais and created three more series: Família Imperial, Pedro e Bianca and Que Monstro te Mordeu?. For these projects, he won international awards such as the Prix Jeunesse and the Emmy. In 2017, he released his first feature film, Transtornada Obsessiva Compulsiva, directed in partnership with Paulo Caruso. Thinking about the public from the The first stages of a project’s development can be very fruitful, not only in terms of its economic sustainability, but also because this approach can open up very interesting and new dialogues artistic paths.
Audience Design is a strategic and dynamic holistic process, specifically adapted to each project, which aims to ensure the best possible distribution of a film targeting its audience. It is an approach based in narrative and experimentation.
This talk will explore the Audience Design strategy, showing cases in which it has been successfully implemented and explaining how this can be a great tool for the development, production and distribution of any project.

Greta was born and raised in Venice, Italy, and currently works as a junior producer for Vivo Film, an award-winning independent production company based in Rome. She has also worked in audience design for years, collaborating with TorinoFilmLab on several projects, including the marketing strategies for the award-winning The Wound (John Trengove, 2017) and the Locarno Film Festival winner A Land Imagined (Yeo Siew Hua, 2018), as well as teaching workshops in São Paulo (Brazil) and Beirut (Lebanon). She holds a degree in English and Film from Scotland and an MA in Film from Columbia University, New York, where she lived for 3 years. In New York, she worked primarily for Film Presence, which specializes in strategic marketing and crowdfunding campaigns, conducting target audience research and liaising with key associations to promote a range of films, including documentaries (Citizenfour) and feature films (Miles Ahead).

He was artistic director of the Costa Rica International Film Festival from 2015 to 2017, and currently works as programming advisor for the IDFA Festival, in addition to collaborating as a tutor for institutions such as Torino Film Lab and Locarno Filmmakers Academy. He is the producer of Cascos indomables (TIFF 2018) and Lucía en el limbo (Cannes Critics Week 2019), and is developing as a co-producer the film Clara sola, Nathalie Álvarez’s debut film, with support from the World Cinema Fund, Hubert Bals, Swedish Film Institute, among others.
