BrLab held its eighth edition in August of 2018. In this edition, the 3 Puertos Cine Editing was held for the first time, in which projects that had already passed through BrLab and 3 Puertos Cine and that were in their post-production stage were selected.
In addition, the book Eliseo em 100 Perguntas, by Chilean screenwriter Julio Rojas, was published by BrLab’s publishing label. The book is based on conversations with one of the greatest screenwriters and script doctors in Latin American cinema (and a BrLab consultant), Eliseo Altunaga.
The 8th edition of BrLab was sponsored by ANCINE, BRDE, and FSA – Audiovisual Sector Fund, with the co-realization of Spcine, the Secretary of Culture of the Prefecture of the City of São Paulo and RT Features. It was produced by Klaxon Cultura Audiovisual and directed by producer and curator Rafael Sampaio, the event’s creator.
Partnerships were maintained with the Instituto Cervantes, Cinema do Brasil, the French Consulate General, the Institut Français, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, FiGa Films, Vitrine Filmes, FAAP, ABRA – Brazilian Association of Screenwriters, TorinoFilmLab, the Consulate General of Israel, the Cinemateca Brasileira, Cinéma en Développement, Tribeca Film Institute, RECAM, Revista de Cinema, and LatAm Cinema.
It also counted on new partnerships with Big Festival, ABCA – Brazilian Association of Animation, Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS), Seu Menino Filmes, Lira Filmes, Instituto Olga Rabinovich, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
12 projects were selected, representing Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Portugal; of these, 4 were animation projects.
Over a period of seven days, representatives of the selected projects had access to consultations on their scripts and productions with internationally renowned film specialists.
Attendees included Uruguayan consultant and producer Agustina Chiarino, Argentine producer Agustina Llambi Campbell, Belgian producer and animator Annemie Degryse, Cuban consultant and screenwriter Eliseo Altunaga, Argentine producer Fernanda del Nido, Brazilian screenwriter and consultant Iana Cossoy Paro, Venezuelan filmmaker Mariana Rondón, Brazilian producer and animator Marta Machado, Mexican consultant and producer Paula Astorga, British consultant and producer Phil Parker, and Brazilian producer and animator Zé Brandão.
There were also talks given by Aline Mazzarella, Dag Hoel, and Eva Morsch Kihn, among others.
