BrLab held its tenth edition in November of 2020, with its program realized online as a safety measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, considering the necessary participation of professionals from different countries that make up our program and activities.
This edition included the event’s traditional workshops and meetings – BrLab Features, BrLab Audience Design, 3 Puertos Editing, Locarno Industry Academy, BrPlot, and Reach.
The 10th edition of BrLab was produced by Klaxon Cultura Audiovisual and directed by producer and curator Rafael Sampaio, the event’s creator.
Projeto Paradiso and the Programa Ibermedia were the sponsors of this edition, with master support from Globo Filmes and Vitrine Filmes, in addition to the Secretary of Culture of the Prefecture of the City of São Paulo, the British Government in Brazil, and the institutional support of the British Government in Brazil and the Consulate General of Israel.
It also featured collaborations with ABRA, API, BRAVI, Brazilian Content, APRO and the partnership of MUBI, 3 Puertos Cine, Locarno International Film Festival (Industry Academy Latin America), Festival Rencontres Cinémas d’Amérique Latine de Toulouse (Cinéma en Développement), PopUp Film Residency, Torino Film Lab, European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs, MediaXchange, Diáspora Conecta, Coletivo DAFB, C/as4atro, and Cesnik, Quintino, Salinas, Fittipaldi and Valério Advogados.
12 projects were selected, representing Brazil, Cuba, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.
Over a period of thirty-five days, representatives of the selected projects had access to consultations on their scripts and productions with internationally renowned film specialists.
Attendees included Brazilian screenwriter and consultant Iana Cossoy Paro, Brazilian producer Paula Cosenza, and Cuban consultant and screenwriter Xênia Rivery.
There were also talks given by Anne Delseth, Gerardo Michelin, Marina Tarabay, and Paula Cosenza, among others.
