The Marambaia River, better known as “Canal do Marambaia”, was a river more than 2km long and today, the river is only 850 meters long and much of it is under buildings. Today, the concentration of urbanization and the intense verticalization of recent decades have brought serious environmental, infrastructure and planning problems, resulting in chaotic traffic, unavailability of water, and pollution of waterways and beaches. And in more recent research on climate change, in 30 years the municipalities most at risk of being affected by rising seas are in Santa Catarina, with Balneário Camboriú (Vale) being one of them. Therefore, the Marambaia River not only portrays the history of a city, but how the environment was affected by the expansion of Brazilian and international cities.
