BrLab Rough Cut is an editing workshop dedicated to fictional feature films, held in São Paulo during BrLab. Projects from Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula and Italy can participate in Rough Cut.

BrLab Rough Cut invites internationally recognized tutors to work on the films alongside the director and editor. Each project is assigned a tutor in order to debate on the project’s needs and apply new creative solutions to them. The participating filmmakers also have the opportunity of exchanging ideas and opening themselves to different views on their work, further enriching their projects’ post-production process. This exchange of experiences makes Rough Cut an incredibly fruitful opportunity for your project to find the cut that will eventually reach the public.

The Ibermedia Program has been with BrLab since its first edition, and 2023 will be no different. The applicants from outside São Paulo selected to participate will receive Ibermedia Scholarships to cover travel, accommodation and food expenses for two project members, which ensure and facilitate the participation of filmmakers from different countries in the Ibero-American region.

How to dimension a film’s cinematography based on the script, according to plural points of view

18h

Live broadcast

Contemporary cinema has been proposing increasingly diverse production formats. These new work proposals result from close dialogues within the teams of each film. The direction of photography is a fundamental part of this invention, assuming the role of a structuring dialogue between the needs of the direction and production. This panel will debate, from the different perspectives of members of the collective DAFB who work on different cinematography fronts in the audiovisual industry, the creative and technical reading of a script as a project planning tool for decision making, even before pre-production. Together, they will talk about how to anticipate, based on the project, the specific needs of each film with regard to the formation of camera, electrical and grip crews, in addition to foreseeing, for each department, the types of equipment that may be favorable, disposable or essential, including on after-set stages, until post production.
