Two sisters, Sorte and Preguiça, decide to catch crabs in the mangrove and make a bet: the winner is whoever catches the crab with the most legs. Since hunger never ends and Sorte must always be outsmarted, Preguiça heads into the mangrove in search of chicken guts, the best bait for crabs. When she returns, she still loses and must tell Sorte the adventures she went through to get the delicacy. Real hunger and a hunger for stories drive the characters. Amid mud, stilt houses and scraps of trash, boys and girls live experiences that are both play and a means of survival.

Partner Karina Hoover holds an MA in Creative Industries and has extensive experience in audiovisual production, including Cafi (feature), Yathée (TV film) and A Persistência da Memória (series).

Director and screenwriter
Adolfo Lachtermacher produced Silvio Tendler’s Josué de Castro, Cidadão do Mundo and produced and directed O Ciclo do Caranguejo, which received awards at CineCeará, Pernambuco and Guarnicê. His credits also include Estátua de Lama (Cuiabá Film Festival, Cinematography Award), Cavalhadas de Pirenópolis (Curta-Criança Award), A Noite do Capitão and O País da Pornochanchada, among others.
Director and screenwriter
Roger Melo is an illustrator and visual artist working across editorial and audiovisual projects for children and teens. He is the author and illustrator of Meninos do Mangue, a work that engages with Northeastern Brazil’s social and cultural world, bringing together literature, imagery and visual storytelling.

Karina Hoover is a cultural and audiovisual producer with an academic background in the Creative Industries. She works in coordination and production for audiovisual projects. Her credits include DVDs for O Rappa and Alceu Valença, series for Canal Brasil and Rede Globo Nordeste, programs for Canal Futura, and the feature films O Rap do Pequeno Príncipe Contra as Almas Sebosas and Cafi.
