In partnership with the City of Arapiraca, BrLab announced, in 2021, BrLab Arapiraca, specially designed for projects and professionals from the audiovisual sector of the city of Arapiraca and other cities in the Brazilian state of Alagoas.
The BrLab Arapiraca, a production realized in partnership with the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, Leisure and Youth of Arapiraca, was one of the projects selected by the Audiovisual Promotion Call that was launched at the end of 2019 by the City of Arapiraca in conjunction with the Brazilian Film Agency – ANCINE through the Regional Arrangements call.
The promotion of the sector was a direct result of a strategic and structuring public policy called the Regional Arrangements call, which in recent years promoted an important decentralization and democratization of access to public funding for the development of the audiovisual sector in Brazil beyond the traditional Rio de Janeiro-São Paulo axis.
BrLab Arapiraca took place at a time of growth and effervescence for the audiovisual sector in Arapiraca and throughout the state of Alagoas. The training of professionals and dedicated work on their projects occurred precisely at a time when several productions in the city were in development, before their filming stages had taken place, and it corresponded to an essential action to optimize and attract investments in the sector.
At BrLab Arapiraca, over the course of three weeks between March and April of 2021, each one of the registered and selected professionals experienced collective and individual training sessions with screenwriters, script consultants, executive producers, directors, and content market executives who held extensive experience in the development and production of projects.
Submissions for the lab were open and free of charge for professionals from the audiovisual sector of Arapiraca and other cities in the state of Alagoas who were involved in the creation and development processes for feature films, shorts, TV films, and series, whether documentary or fiction. A minimum of 50% of the spots were reserved for professionals living and working in Arapiraca and the region.
Both the activities open to the public and the workshops geared towards the selected projects were held in online environments.
