Mozambique. Octávio, a mat craftsman, is accused of having killed two people. Neuza, his teenage wife, will have to travel to his other wife’s village to retrieve her husband’s documents. A Portuguese missionary priest and a young indigenous man walk alone from beach to beach for days. The priest talks repeatedly about the shipwreck he suffered while trying to teach him the Catholic religion and European customs, dreaming of the day when a galleon will arrive to rescue him.
