Iruana is a 19-year-old black woman, pregnant and newly arrived at the Women's Prison of Salvador, who, after failing in an attempted abortion, is forced by the state to continue her pregnancy. After the birth, Iruana is ordered by the law to hand over the child's guardianship, and joins the other inmates to prevent her daughter from ending up in the hands of an abusive grandfather.
