Vera is a 30-year-old evangelical woman living in Manaus, Amazonas. She is married to Pastor Sebastião with whom she wishes to have a child and establish a family. Traumatized by the death of her mother in the waters of the Rio Negro, she decides to sell the boat she inherited from her father; however, she is convinced by her husband to go on an evangelizing mission through the interior of the Amazon forest, using the boat, despite her fear of the river. During the trip, Vera meets Kauany, an independent ribeirinha, whose strength and determination make her rethink her ideas about marriage and reconnect with her forgotten past, swimming again in the waters of the Rio Negro, and questioning to whom her boat and her life really belong.
