Synopsis

On the Cayambe volcano slopes, the first major strike by the indigenous people begins. Thousands of unionized wasipungueros require payment, fair treatment and rest periods from their "bosses", who force them to live on small pieces of unproductive land, for which they need to pay by means of forced and inhuman labor. The bosses flatly refuse to accept these conditions and, backed by military and government authorities, force them to go back to work. Leading the wasipungueros is Dolores Cacuango, a 45 year-old illiterate woman who, despite the death of several of her children, carries alone the fate of being a leader, woman and mother. This story is inspired by her internal struggle to accept her fate.
