Marité Ugás was born in Lima, Peru. After getting a degree in Communication from the University of Lima, she joined the first generation of EICTV, in Cuba, were she directed Barrio Belen, a documentary film about the harbor of Havana, awarded in Helsinki, Paris and Rome. Her first short films already showed a personal rhythm style, such as Algo caía en el silencio and Cotidiano, which were awarded in New York, Bilbao, Maryland and Rome. In 1991 she created her company Sudaca Films, based in Caracas, where she works as director, producer, editor and writer. Her first feature film, A la media noche y media (co-directed with Mariana Rondón), was screened at more than 40 international film festivals, such as Tokyo, Rotterdam and Seattle. As a producer and editor, she released in 2007 Postales de Leningrado, which won 23 international awards. Her second film, El Chico que miente was supported by CNAC (National Autonomous Cinematography Center in Venezuela), by Ibermedia and by the EDD-Germany.
