Graduated in Journalism from Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, he has comprehensive experience as a film critic, programmer and curator. His short films received more than 100 awards in Brazil and abroad. He debuted in the feature film category with the documentary Crítico (2008), and in 2012 he released O Som ao Redor, his first fiction feature film, screened at more than 100 international festivals, released commercially in 14 countries and winner of 32 awards. Aquarius (2016), his second feature film, premiered at the Festival de Cannes and was distributed in more than 100 countries. He co-directed with Juliano Dornelles the feature film Bacurau (2019), which won the Jury Award at the Festival de Cannes and achieved great critical and public success.
