Film director, producer and screenwriter, he co-founded the production company Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre in the 1980s, through which he made short films, such as Ilha das Flores (1989), that marked Brazilian cinematography and won national and international awards, leading him to be hired by Rede Globo as a screenwriter and director. He directed feature films such as O Homem que Copiava (2003) and Meu Tio Matou um Cara (2004). In 2012 he won the Emmy for Best Comedy Series with Amor de Mãe. He also created other important and popular series such as Sob Pressão and Amor e Sorte, a miniseries entirely shot during the pandemic period.
