Artist and filmmaker, his work has been projected and exhibited in festivals and exhibitions such as Berlin, Sundance, Locarno, Toronto, Venice, IDFA, Rotterdam, Oberhausen, São Paulo Biennial, Videobrasil, MACBA and MoMA. He received the Fenix Award for Best Iberoamerican Screenplay for Boi Neon (2015), which also made the New York Times Top 10 Best Films in 2016. He was nominated for the PIPA Award in 2015 for his work in visual arts. His films have won over 50 international awards, and in 2016, Mascaro was the subjected of a retrospective hosted by the Lincoln Center in New York.
