The 9th edition of BrLab brought together national and international professionals and projects for 07 days of market and training activities that took place on October 03-09, 2019, at Espaço Itaú de Cinema, Instituto Moreira Salles, Instituto Cervantes, Cinesesc and Cinemateca Brasileira, in the city of São Paulo. Four simultaneous workshops and laboratories were organized for projects and professionals at different stages of the audiovisual chain, from screenwriting to commercialization.
In addition to BrLab, three workshops were offered in 2019: the workshop "3 Puertos Cine Montagem", the second edition of the "Audience Design Workshop" in partnership with TorinoFilmLab and Projeto Paradiso, and the "São Paulo Industry Academy", a workshop held in partnership with the Locarno Film Festival.
In addition to the activities designed for the selected projects, there were also several activities open to the public. In partnership with Projeto Paradiso, BrLab launched "Reach", the first international event focused on audience in the audiovisual market. The activity brought together renowned national and international market players, who set out to reflect on story construction models that really connect with their audience.
BrPlot was also an open event, which took place for the third consecutive year with discussion panels on screenwriting and audiovisual narratives. Face-to-face meetings took place at Espaço Itaú de Cinema and were also streamed live on BrLab's Facebook page, where this content is still available.
There was also a commented screening of "O Ornitólogo" with the presence of Portuguese director João Pedro Rodrigues and screenwriter and art director João Rui. This activity was held in partnership with Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS) and the Consulate of Portugal in São Paulo.
In 2019, BrLab launched the editorial collection "Roteiros do Cinema Brasileiro" and published the script for Anna Muylaert‘s "Que Horas Ela Volta?" in book form. In addition to a preface by Eliane Brum, the publication brings a previously unpublished conversation between the author and guests. The book release took place at Cinesesc after the film screening, and was followed by a book signing event attended by the author and the cast

VITRINE FILMES DEVELOPMENT AWARD
In the 9th edition of BrLab - Development of audiovisual projects, Vitrine Filmes, the laboratory's partner distributor since 2012, will award a Brazilian project for the third time. The Vitrine Filmes Development Award will be offered to one of the 6 participating Brazilian projects and will consist of an investment of R$ 70.000,00 linked to the se- lection of the distributor company by the Automatic Support Public Call - Commercial Performance of Film 2018, so that to compete for the Award, the selected project must agree and comply with the re- quirements of the Public Call, being able to follow all guidelines. The execution must follow Prodav's general regulation and the investment must be directed to the development of the awarded project. The an- nouncement of the project selected for investment by Vitrine Filmes will be made during the awards ceremony of the 2019 edition of BrLab - Development of audiovisual projects, and the contracting and condi- tions will be established directly with the Award's grantor, according to the rules of the Public Call. In 2017, the winning project of the Vitrine Filmes Development Award was Criadas, by Carol Rodrigues, and in 2018 the winner was Bruno Ribeiro’s Sião.
VITRINE FILMES ACQUISITION AWARD
Founded in 2010 by Silvia Cruz, Vitrine Filmes is a company mainly dedicated to the distribution of Brazilian films, which endeavors to enhance the value of national cinema and world independent cinema through its international titles. In seven years, Vitrine Filmes has distributed over 140 films. Its largest successes are Hoje eu quero voltar sozinho, which has reached over 200,000 viewers; Kleber Mendonça Filho’s O Som ao redor, named one of the best films of 2012 by the New York Times; Frances Ha, nominated for a Golden Globe in 2014; Mãe só há uma, by Anna Muylaert, director of the award-winning Que horas ela volta?; Aquarius, Kleber Mendonça Filho’s second feature film, which competed at the Cannes Film Festival and took over 350,000 viewers to theaters; and Bacurau, by Kleber Mendonça Filho and Juliano Dornelles, which received the Jury Award at the Cannes Film Festival and took more than 400,000 viewers to theaters in just three weeks. Vitrine Filmes reaffirms its commitment to Latin American and Iberian cinema by supporting BrLab for the seventh consecutive year, granting an Acquisition Award to a foreign project participating in the activities. In 2017, the winning project of the Vitrine Filmes Acquisition Award was Légua, by João Milller Guerra and Filipa Reis, and in 2018, the winning project was Leonardo Barbuy’s Diógenes
GLOBO FILMES DEVELOPMENT AWARD
Since 1998, Globo Filmes has participated in over 300 films, bringing to the public the best in Brazilian cinema. With the mission of contributing to the development of the national audiovisual industry, the company’s filmography contemplates several genres (comedy, children, romance, documentary, drama and adventure), focusing on diversity and on works that value Brazilian culture. Globo Filmes participated in some of the most successful Brazilian films in terms of audience and critic reviews, such as Tropa de elite 2, Minha Mãe é uma peça 2 - with over 9 million viewers –, Se eu fosse você 2, 2 Filhos de Francisco, Aquarius, Que horas ela volta?, O Palhaço, Getúlio, Carandiru, Cidade de Deus - with four Oscar nominations -, and Bacurau, which won the Jury Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Its activities are carried out through partnerships with independent producers and national and international distributors.

POP UP RESIDENCY AWARD
The Pop Up Film Residency brings the best of what artistic residencies offer, together with a truly individualized mentorship program. It is run by filmmakers for filmmakers and hosts one resident at a time for a three-week period.
Residents are exclusively selected through a network of creative partners including BrLab, EAVE, Cannes Critics’ Week, Doha Film Institute, When East Meets West or Warsaw Kids Film Forum. An exception to the selection rule goes for experienced filmmakers, who can request a "Residency on Demand". The winner of the Pop Up Film Residency Award will be offered a three- week-long tailor-made residency in Bratislava.
PROJETO PARADISO AWARD
One of the 6 Brazilian projects participating in the 2019 edition of BrLab will be selected for the incubator Incubadora Paradiso 2020, a program of Projeto Paradiso, an initiative to support Brazilian audiovisual talent. Within the incubator, the selected scriptwriter will receive a scholarship in the total amount of R$ 30,000.00 (R$ 5,000.00 per month), as well as mentoring, doctoring, audience design consulting, incentives to enter the international circuit and other support appropriate to the needs of each project. The project will be selected by a competent evaluation committee constituted by Projeto Paradiso for this purpose.
CINÉMA EN DÉVELOPPEMENT AWARD
Cinéma en Développement is a space designed for European and Latin American professionals to meet, without constituting a market. The goal of this platform is to promote an interchange between profes- sionals in search of talents and projects, and directors and producers who are developing their films and wish to strengthen their network. Cinélatino Rencontres de Toulouse and BrLab, since 2013, have joined forces to extend to Toulouse the support offered to Brazilian producers and directors, through a jointly selected project. Since then, the projects Paterno (2013), A Morte habita à noite (2014), O Filho plantado (2015), Sábado morto (2016), Criadas (2017), Todos os demônios estão mortos (2018) have been selected to participate in the program. This alliance aims to provide continuity in Europe to the guidance and support dy- namics initiated in Latin America, thus offering an opportunity for one of the participating projects to benefit from a personalized program that includes a presentation of the project on “1-to-1” meetings of Cinéma en Développement with renowned industry professionals, case studies, and Cinéma en Construction screenings. Cinéma en Développement will take place at the professional platform of the Cinélatino 31th Rencontres de Toulouse (March 20 - 29, 2020). The Brazilian professionals involved in the selected project will receive support from Agência Nacional de Cinema – ANCINE to enable their participation. In 2018, the Cinéma en Développement award was granted to Marcus Vinicius Vasconcelos’s Todos os demônios estão mortos.
CONSULTORIA CESNIK, QUINTINO & SALINAS ADVOGADOS AWARD
CQS Advogados specializes in legal advice on planning, structuring and enabling business models for the entertainment, technology and third sector markets. Since 1996, it has been contributing to the pro- fessionalization and growth of these industries in Brazil, and in the process has become a reference in the market. In the ninth edition of BrLab - Development of Audiovisual Projects, for the third time, CQS Advogados will offer a legal advice award of up to six hours to one of the participating projects. The award will be granted by BrLab to the project also awarded the production consulting award, and may be used for legal advice involving Brazilian law or consulting on business model structuring.
C/AS4TRO AWARD
c/as4atro is a collective of executive producers with experience in dif- ferent and complementary areas of activity in audiovisual production, teaching and consulting for feature films and TV series. Since November 2016, the collective began its history by providing production consulting services for several projects, such as the TV series "Filhos do mar", by Flo Filmes, in Goiânia; "Felipa e o foguete", a TV film by Pira Filmes, in Goiânia; "O Reflexo do lago", by Claritê Produções, in Pará, which was recently selected by Prodecine 5; the series Matches by Midigal Filmes, in Rio de Janeiro; "Expedicionários do Brasil", by Schurmann Filmes, in São Paulo. We were responsible for the executive production of the TV series "Insustentáveis", coproduced by Cérberos Filmes (MT) and Vermelho Filmes (SP), filmed at Chapada dos Guimarães. In the area of education, we participate in Ancine's FSA/PRODAV 4 project development labs with Klaxon Cultura Audiovisual; we teach courses at the Centro Cultural BARCO and Instituto de Cinema in São Paulo, in addition to teaching workshops at festivals and courses in partnership with institutions throughout Brazil, such as the Icumam Lab in Goiânia and Sebrae. Believing that we can and should be the change we want to see in the world, we provide consulting focused on reducing the environmental impact of audiovisual productions through Cinema Verde. We are Ariene Ferreira, Daniela Aun, Mariana Brasil and Mylena Mandolesi. We are 4 women who jointly strive to create new ways of working that generate autonomy, prosperity and respect through a healthy environment. We seek to democratically offer our talents and thus empower others across the country. We are transmitters of knowledge, constantly generating new ideas and intertwining possibilities and partnerships. And this year, in partnership with BrLab, we will award 1 project with 06 hours of executive production consulting services. From production planning to specific questions involving grants or other issues related to the audiovisual sector, negotiations and partnerships, our goal is to streamline processes and unlock steps to jointly create a healthy and viable production process.
