Synopsis

Felipe, a black young man from Brazil, lives with his mother in Portugal. Maria works in nightclubs, while Felipe spends the nights by himself. In Catholic school, he is the target of racist and xenophobic insults. Maria struggles to get closer to Felipe, but the arrival of Henrikh, a young Armenian, destabilizes the relationship between mother and son and gives rise to a new relationship between the newcomer and Felipe.

Oxalá Produções e Uma Pedra no Sapato

For the past four years, Oxalá Produções has been developing audiovisual projects focusing on content related to the Afro-Brazilian and diaspora culture. Some of its main productions are the fction short Fábula de Vó Ita (2016), the documentary short Okán Mímó (2017), and the webseries “Empoderadas” (2015). In 2017, the company collaborated in the development of the project “Ojú: Encontros e Movimentos”, which presents to the public the cultural and historical aspects of the terreiro communities. Originating from the project's theme, the production company also made Okán Mimó: olhares e palavras de afeto, a flm that registers testimonies of candomblé members about their relations with the Orixás.

 

An expanding independent film production company based in Lisbon, founded by filmmakers Filipa Reis and João Miller Guerra, which invests in fiction and creative documentary, aiming to make films with impact across borders and cultures, with world premieres in major festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, Locarno, Venice, IDFA, Cinema du Réel, FIDMarseille, DOKLeipzig, Hong Kong, Clérmont-Ferrand), domestic and international cinematic release, distribution in network and cable TV and via VOD all over the world. Batrachian’s Ballad (2016) and Terra Franca (2018) are among the company’s production.
