Created by the Locarno Film Festival in 2014, the Industry Academy is an intensive training program whose objective is to train and support young film industry professionals working specifically in the area of independent film circulation: online and traditional distribution, sales, film marketing, exhibition, festival programming, among others. The workshop acts as a shortcut for a new generation of professionals entering the independent film industry, fostering their development and helping them to better understand the challenges of the industry, as well as to expand their networks. The Locarno Industry Academy also aims to build bridges of collaboration across different markets in Europe, North America, Ibero-America, the Middle East and South Africa.

Since its first edition in Latin America in 2015, held in Mexico, to which in subsequent years were added those of Brazil and Chile and, from 2023, Colombia and Costa Rica, the Industry Academy has received more than 150 industry professionals from almost all countries in the region. Thus, it has fostered the meeting and exchange between emerging Latin American professionals in the field of circulation and tutors from different parts of the world, collaborating with their insertion in the global scenario and the development of the regional industry. One of the focuses of this initiative is to respect the specificity of each territory, with a diverse and decentralized approach.

Thanks to the support of Ibermedia, this year 2024 the Industry Academy will have 5 editions in Latin America, aimed at Ibero-American professionals: Mexico (within the framework of FICUNAM) and Colombia (at BAM) in the first semester; and Costa Rica (at MAUCC), and Brazil (BrLab) in the second.

The selection for the Brazil workshop will be made through a single call:

  • Sao-Paulo Locarno Industry Academy, from 4 to 7 October 2024 during BrLab (Sao Paulo).

The call opens on Friday 5 July and closes on Sunday 28 July 2024

The results will be made public at the end of August.

Each session of each country concerned in this call (Brazil), will offer a group of 10 to 12 participants from Ibero-America mentoring with international professionals with extensive experience in the field of independent film circulation, as well as the opportunity to meet with other professionals from the audiovisual industry who will be present in activities developed by BRLAB.
