A minimum of 09 (nine) fiction feature film projects will be selected through this call to participate in the laboratory, which will take place between November 21st and 27th, 2022, in a live format in the city of São Paulo (SP). Other online preparatory activities will be scheduled by mutual agreement between November 7th and 18th.
  4. Twelve projects will be selected, of which one has already been selected in partnership with Cinéma en Développement of the Toulouse Festival, one project will be selected in partnership with the Open Doors program of the Locarno Festival, one project will be selected through a partnership with El Cine Chileno del Futuro of the Valdívia Festival, and nine projects will be selected through this call. At least two openings will be destined for projects for children and family audiences, selected through the partnership ComKids+BrLab.
  5. The projects must submit a detailed script in up to 5,000 words, 1 (one) to 3 (three) scenes written in screenplay format, along with 1 (one) paragraph justifying the choice of each of the scenes submitted.
  6. Scripts will not be received or considered in the selection process. Projects that already have the script developed may still apply, knowing that the script must correspond to the script development stage for the good evaluation of the selection committee members and better work during the laboratory. After the selection, the complete script can be sent to the consultants.
  7. If the script is an adaptation of another work, it is essential to present the formal authorization for its use signed by the copyright owners.
  8. The list of selected projects will be published until the beginning of September. Those responsible will be contacted by the Lab’s organization and must, upon registration, be available to fully participate in the activities distributed over the period from November 7th to 18th online, at dates and times agreed upon between the parties, and from November 20th to 28th in person, in the city of São Paulo (SP).
  9. The projects will be evaluated by the edition’s selection committee, whose decisions are irrevocable. Unfortunately, BrLab does not have the structure or capacity to issue opinions or feedbacks about projects not selected.
  10. Priority will be given to early-stage projects that have not participated in other labs or co-production meetings in Brazil.
  11. The projects pre-selected by the commission will go through an online interview with BrLab’s organization.
  12. Upon registration, the film production must agree with the dates of the lab and commit to participate, along with the director/screenplay writer, during the full time of the activities, as well as being both willing to share their projects with the other selected projects.
  13. Upon registration, the film production undertakes to insert mention of participation in the program and the BrLab logo in the film’s credits.
  14.  Upon registration, the film production undertakes to accept the sharing of the project’s abstract and/or script so that it can be worked on in collaboration with all the professionals participating in the program, as well as accepting all the terms established in these regulations.
  15.  Upon registration, the film production must agree to provide materials requested by the Lab team in other languages, such as English, to be considered in international awards deliberations and business meetings with foreign funds and production companies.
  16. Before the activities take place, a contract must be signed between the representatives of the production and the BrLab organization guaranteeing the due fulfillment of the items foreseen in the previous clauses, as well as a confidentiality agreement between everyone to guarantee the productive sharing of information.
  17. The production of the film is committed to complying with the deadlines stipulated by the Lab team for sending the materials, documents and information necessary for the realization of the event.
  18. Through scholarships offered by the Ibermedia Program, BrLab will cover the costs of 1 (one) air ticket per project, and also, the costs of accommodation for 2 (two) members (producer and director/screenwriter) of each selected project, who are non-resident professionals in São Paulo. The participants will be lodged in double rooms, and must provide or pay, necessarily, the airfare for the participation of the second representative of the project – and the third representative as well, when applicable.
