Created by the Locarno Festival, with editions in Latin America since 2015, Industry Academy is an intensive training program whose objective is to train and support young industry professionals working in the areas of online and traditional distribution, sales, film marketing, exhibition and programming, so that they understand and can face the challenges of the independent audiovisual industry in Ibero-America and the world.
In 2020 and 2021, following the changes imposed by the COVID 19 pandemic, the workshop was held in an online format, and thus we were able to expand and unify our selection process, enabling the creation of more heterogeneous and decentralized groups, providing valuable contributions to discussions on a changing film industry.
This year, we continue on a hybrid format (online and on site) with two Industry Academy sessions aimed at Ibero-American professionals. The selection of participants will be made under a single call common to both activities*
- MoreliaLocarno Industry Academy,ONLINE in the framework of the Morelia International Film Festival (Mexico), which will take place from 24 to 26 October 2022.
- São Paulo Locarno Industry Academy, ON SITE**in the framework of the BrLab (Brasil), which will take place from 24 to 27 November 2022.
*Industry Academy team will define which session each participant attends, considering the availability of dates and to travel. We then recommend availability for both periods and will consider so unless specified in the application. For the session in Brazil, costs of accommodation and food will be covered by the Industry Academy, but the air ticket should be provided by the participant or his company.
**The onsite format is subject to confirmation
The call opens on Friday 22nd of July and closes on Friday 26th of August.
The results will be made public in mid-September.
Professionals, preferably under 40 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the areas of sales, marketing, online and traditional distribution, exhibition and programming, and with an excellent level of English and Spanish (written and spoken) can apply.
We remind you that this training is not for producers or directors who wish to understand the world of film circulation, but is a programme designed for professionals who already have experience in the aforementioned areas within the industry.

Each session will offer a group of 8 to 10 participants from Ibero-America tutorials with international professionals with extensive experience in the field of independent film circulation, as well as the opportunity to meet with other professionals from the audiovisual industry who will be present at activities developed by BrLab and FICM.
The Industry Academy, held for the first time at the 2014 Locarno Film Festival, is a programme for young professionals working in the areas of international sales, marketing, distribution, exhibition and programming (festivals, film clubs, museums, cinematheques). It was created to support their positioning in the circuits and allow them to interact directly with regional and international professionals, who are key players in the industry. Industry Academy acts as a shortcut for a new generation of professionals entering the independent film industry, fostering their development and helping them to better understand the challenges of the industry, as well as to expand their networks. Locarno Industry Academy International also aims to build bridges of collaboration across different markets in Europe, North America, Ibero-America, the Middle East, South Africa and South Asia.
For the São Paulo edition, Industry Academy is supported by Projeto Paradiso and SPCine.
