Hosted by BrLab, supported by Programa IBERMEDIA, Cinema do Brasil and Projeto Paradiso and co-organized by BrLab and Locarno Festival, the 3rd São Paulo – Locarno Industry Academy International will be held in the frame of the 9th BrLab (October 3rd to 9th), the traditional Lab and meeting event in Brazil that annually holds workshops, seminars and different activities for the international Industry.


Launched for the first time at the Locarno Festival in 2014, the Industry Academy is a program for young professionals working in the fields of international sales, marketing, distribution, exhibition and programming (festival, cine-club, museum, cinematheque) which has been created in order to help them position themselves in the Industry, and to allow them to directly interact with regional and international industry professionals and key players.

The Industry Academy acts as a shortcut for a new generation of professionals entering the independent film industry, encouraging their progress, helping them to get a better understanding of the Industry’s challenges and broaden their network of contacts. The aim of the Locarno Industry Academies International is also to build bridge across different markets in Europe, North and Latin America, Mediterranean countries and Middle East.


After the success of the two first editions in 2017 and 2018, the 2019 Sao-Paulo Locarno Industry Academy International will take place from October 7th to 9th in the frame of the BrLab, with the support of Programa IBERMEDIA, Cinema do Brasil and Projeto Paradiso *. The 3-days workshop will offer a group of 10 participants from Brazil and Ibero-American countries an opportunity to understand the challenges of the independent movie industry within the Brazilian and the International scene meeting guest-speakers and tutors from different countries, as well as fully enjoying the event’s experience.


BrLab it is the only audiovisual project development lab in Brazil that supports and welcomes filmmakers from both Brazil and abroad, providing professionals from different countries of Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula with diverse activities oriented by renowned international consultants. It also promotes, at each edition, different workshops and a series of panels open to interested audiences and professionals in the audiovisual field.


The Call for entries is available at brlab.com.br/ano/2019/sao-paulo-locarno-industry-academy/4333/ and remains open from Monday, July 15th until Sunday, August 11th for young professionals interested in the fields of sales, marketing, distribution, exhibition and programming / curating, preferably already working with an established company.

English is required for the participation at the workshop.

*Cinema do Brasil is a private association of audiovisual content producers in Brazil. It was funded in 2016 by the São Paulo State Audiovisual Industry Association (SIAESP) and currently represents 180 member-companies. It aims at internationalizing Brazilian film industry by promoting co-productions and boosting participation of Brazilian films at international festivals, therewith supporting their worldwide distribution.



*Projeto Paradiso is an initiative of the Olga Rabinovich Institute, a Brazilian philanthropy that promotes the creation and outreach of national independent films and series. It aims to build capacity among national talents by increasing the participation of Brazilian players in international training and trading opportunities.
